This letter is long, long overdue! Please forgive that, and you may rightly assume there is at least as much strength in my sentiment (expressed below) as there is slow-ness in my letter writing!
I cannot thank you enough for your work here. You will remember the front room in black? Really – I am so grateful.
This is not a general, ill-focused 'thank you' either, but a quite specific and detailed, itemised and focused catalogue of things you and your company did so well...
Your website (as I've told you before) is honest, winsome and informal – but it turns out also to be true to its every claim to excellence! Your firm were true to their time estimate both for getting started and for finishing (punctual and accurate). I know that, because your sander failed on the Thursday, this cost you in effort, time etc. as you completed the job on a Saturday, shouldering the 'overtime' burden of that without passing it on to the customer. That was greatly appreciated. Really!
I remember telling toy about one or two aspects of the floor (some exposed wires, a change in height between boards where an old 'repair' had been done) that you need not bother to improve these... AND YET YOU DID!
All around the skirting board you and your team did an incredibly neat, sharp job. The fireplace surround was much better executed than I would have envisaged. I have looked closely at aspects of the work which might have been missed by a non-critical eye and yet everywhere I look your firm had troubled to do the job so, so well.
I am so weary these days of the loss of craftsmanship and pride in a job well done. It has become routine to expect disappointment. I know that I am a perfectionist and very fussy (ask my poor wife!) and yet what you did exceeded my expectations. The only explanation seems to be that you and your team do your best for the satisfaction of doing exactly that: YOUR BEST. Even the bits the customer might never notice done to perfection... The only reason for that seems to be pride in a job well done. Well, if it is any additional satisfaction, I did notice, and I enjoy the beauty of the craftsmanship and the room... The one word in all this that seems most precious and natural as I write is the word TRUE. You did the work with integrity and were TRUE to your own high standards and to your word. How rare and precious that is these days!
It goes without saying that we will (and have already!) recommend you most highly to everyone we know. I am sorry that we did not have the funds to also do the stairs and hall, but if we are ever doing more work here or at another address we will of course be in contact like a shot!
