What we do
E&A Flooring is a company that specializes in two aspects of the flooring trade:
We also undertake paint stripping and general wood restoration.
Who we are
In the company name E&A Flooring, the E stands for Esther and the A is for Alex. Together we founded E&A Flooring when we first came to live in Scotland. Born and raised in Cologne, Germany, for years we had longed for a life in Scotland, and in May 1997 we left our home country to live in Glenshee. We later moved closer to 'civilisation' at The Old Manse in Clunie, near Blairgowrie, where we are still based.
Esther being a time-served cabinet maker and the two of us having worked with wood in Germany, we had a strong urge to carry on working with wood in our new domicile.
Until 2001 we worked together on sanding and fitting floors, and only when we were expecting our son Lewis did Esther have to pull out. In 2004 our daughter Ida was born, and Esther, remaining a partner in the business, would occasionally visit us on-site when I forgot to put some tools or varnish in the van. Today I am happy to say that Esther is back full time.
Completing our team are Tom Carstairs and David Morrison (aka Morri) who have both worked with us for years; we are very happy that we found such reliable, caring and hard-working guys.
All our flooring jobs are carried out by our own team, and nobody else.
Where we work
We have worked north of Ullapool and as far south as Sheffield, and even, on occasion, in Germany. E&A Flooring basically goes wherever the work is, which is usually within an area covering Dundee, Angus, Perth, the Glens, and Crieff. Sometimes we even get a job locally.
How we work
When you ring us to enquire about floor sanding or wooden floors, please bear in mind that we are not always available to answer the phone, as Alex, who runs the office, might be out visiting customers or working on-site. Should this be the case, please be patient and leave us a message; Alex will get back to you as soon as possible.
Then the usual procedure is for Alex to pay you a visit and inspect the floors in question. He will discuss with you the options of the various treatments, repairs, possible problems, and the order in which the job will be carried out, and will usually give you a written quotation on the spot. For more complex jobs Alex will first need to work out the quote in the office before sending it out to you by email, fax or post.
Once you accept our quotation we will arrange with you a date on which to carry out the work. Unless there are unforeseen circumstances on either side, our team will turn up on the agreed date and at the agreed time. If we are held up for any reason we will phone you straight away to let you know that we are running late, even if it's only 15 minutes. Rest assured that we will never leave you waiting, not knowing what's happening.
Our workmen will always keep you informed about when, why and what they are doing to make things run as smoothly as possible for all concerned. When we have done the work we will always leave your house or premises looking neat and tidy.
Quotations and estimates
We really do need to visit the site and take our own measurements in order to give you an accurate quotation. That's actually the way we prefer to start the job, rather than giving an estimate over the phone. It gives you the chance to see us and it is important for the pricing for us to see the areas you either want to have sanded or fitted with wooden flooring.
Every single job is different and each will have its own 'tricky' or less straightforward areas. An initial site visit also gives us the opportunity to explain certain aspects of the job in situ and makes the pricing of the job more accurate (we don't want either of us to be out of pocket).
Quotations and estimates don't cost you anything and are valid for 6 months. All prices include VAT at the current rate.
If you just want an estimate for floor sanding, please make use of our estimate form.
Payment
We usually expect to be paid in full when the job is finished unless other terms have been agreed, and when sending out invoices we allow 7 days for receipt of payment.
If flooring materials are required we ask for payment for the timber when you place the order. At the moment we can only accept cash or cheque.
